![]() the chilton's manual isn't any help on this, sadly. I can't find a good diagram anywhere, but i assume that once i remove the pump, the sensor will be obvious? i can't seem to find anything on the outside of the pump that i can just replace. Now it has become profuse & will leak down appreciably when sitting overnight, so Ive stopped driving it until I can remedy the matter. It has been leaking power steering fluid for a while in small amounts. if you let it go too far it will run fluid down the harness to the O2 sensor connector and trip a MIL for a bad O2 sensor. It has a power steering cooler, I believe. I did look at the leak and it does appear to be starting up at the pump, so i expect that you guys are right on the diagnosis. is the high pressure sensor a piece i can replace or do i need to replace the entire pump? i can't take it off right now (my other car is having brake issues so i'm driving the truck) but i just want to know what to be prepared to purchase. I would get it fixed because your shure don't want it to go dry. HMMM my dads pick-up has about the same problem but the leak isn't as bad. ive done a few racks on different vehicles as a former front end guy. Todd, the leak you're talking about is the pressure sensor on the high pressure side of the power steering pump. not sure about taht new of Dak but my 93 is also leaking and aside from finding the 150 or so to buy the replacement and the 60 to have it aligned the replacement will be a piece of cake. I've heard and seen a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) about this leak shorting out the O2 sensor near it, which gives you Mil lights, worse MPG, etc. TexasTodd GenIII 18:20:52: RE: leaking power steering fluid IP: Logged Message: Oh, that leak, sorry Drive it like its paid for. ![]() Not sure if this is a weak spot on our dakotas but that's what happened to me.I put some lucas stop leak in it and it stopped it almost right away Dodge Dakota JOIN HERE 12:27:25: RE: leaking power steering fluid IP: Logged Message: todd, the leak you're talking about is the pressure sensor on the high pressure side of the power steering pump. I had the same problem - it was leaking from the power steering gearbox. if its something more serious than the pump or cable, i'm inclined to just leave it unrepaired. If this happens, repairs could cost well over 1,000. In worst-case scenarios, a power steering fluid leak may damage the power steering rack. A damaged power steering pump costs hundreds to repair. I haven't dug through the truck yet to find where the leak is, but i was wondering if anyone else had experienced something similar. with power-steering it could be one of three problems. Repair Costs Working under stress, the pump will break from a lack of proper fluid intake. The truck has almost always had a problem with the steering being sluggish when it sits overnight during the winter, but its only gotten bad since the leak started about 2 years ago (again, i don't drive it regularly, so adding a little fluid now and then hasn't been a big deal.) i don't drive it regularly, but i have to refill the reservoir after about 100 miles of city driving. I have an '00 sport 4x4 and it leaks power steering fluid pretty badly.
